Every year sees an amazing range of festivals that help make this the most fascinating small town in America! On this page, I present an enhanced version of the 2014 Wallace Chamber of Commerce Events Calendar. Many Silver Valley events are also included. Several of Wallace's festivals are large enough to warrant their own pages, complete with photos and forms.

Come see the 73rd running of the Lead Creek Derby from Mullan to Wallace, June 21, 2014 Gyro Days Carnival and Lead Creek Derby in Wallace

Thursday is the start of the downtown Carnival that runs through Saturday night.

The 73rd running of the Lead Creek Derby from Mullan to Wallace will begin at noon on Saturday, June 21, 2014, when the brightly colored leather ball drops into the South fork of the Coeur d'Alene River.

The Lead Creek Derby Raffle
is based on the time it takes the Gyro Ball to float from Mullan to Wallace. The elapsed time and ticket numbers are randomly paired by computer. Tickets are $1 each. A book of ten is $10... but then you only have to print your name once.

21 The 17th annual Bridge the Years and Ride the Wall bicycle event will be based out of the Mission Inn in Cataldo this year.

Celebrate the longest day of the year by participating in a non-competitive 13 mile bicycle ride via the historic CCC-Wall Ridge route, a picturesque road that winds along and above the Coeur d'Alene River. This year the course will be reversed. For the first 15 years, this event was hosted by Joe and Rose Mary Peak at their Enaville Resort, but with their passing, the event will now begin and end in their memory at the Mission Inn, 36179 East Canyon Road in Cataldo (Take I-90, Exit 40). As usual, the ride will conclude with a BBQ.

Therefore, this year, the first part of the ride is 8 miles on a one-lane, gravel dirt road that is rigorously uphill for about a mile, and later sharply downhill to Enaville. Things calm down as the ride returns downstream to Cataldo beside the Coeur d'Alene River on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes.

    • 1 PM - Bring your accordion for Michael Bridge's workshop on "Jammin' and Improvising." ($10 fee payable in advance or at the door)
    • 3 PM - Michael will improvise an accompaniment to a famous silent film, shown on the new big screen at the comfortable and air-conditioned historic Sixth Street Theater. (Last year Michael's premiere improv of Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid" was a sell-out! This year's film will be equally fun!) $10 per ticket.
    • 7 PM - Spokane Accordion Ensemble presents its "Evening of Americana" concert at the new downtown Nite Rock Events Center (air conditioned and seating at ground level). Advance tickets are $15 per person. Cabana balcony seating with private bar service available for slightly more.
  • Saturday, August 9th
    • 10 AM - Musicians, marchers, floats and vehicles invited to join in an Accordion Celebration Parade. A birthday bash for Smokey the Bear (turning 70 today!) will follow in the Gazebo. Line-up to be in the parade at 9:30 AM in front of the Wallace Elks Lodge.
    • 11 AM - Learn how to get the most out of your accordion at the "Ins and Outs of Accordion" workshop by Michael Bridge. $10 fee.
    • 1 PM - Join professional musician Jim O'Brien for a workshop on "How to Play with Others." $5 fee.
    • 2:30 PM - Encourage young talent at the second-annual youth competition in the Gazebo. No entry fee; cash prizes to winners. (Contact Judy at 208-699-0462 for more information.)
    • 4:30 to 6:00 PM - Enjoy a German buffet at the historic Wallace Brewing Co., while listening to the music of Polka Express, the duo of Jim and Shirley O'Brien. Advance tickets $10 per person; slightly higher at door.
    • 7 PM - Dance the night away to the music of Michael Bridge. His concert will be held at the Nite Rock Events Center. Advance tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple. Seating limited so make reservations!
  • Sunday, August 10th
    • Farewell Breakfast Buffet served at The Brooks Restaurant. New for this year's festival is a gospel church service at 10 AM at the United Methodist Church. Montana musicians will be playing some old-time favorites and even a polka or two, with a spiritual twist.

2014 Wallace Halloween Bash and Chamber of Commerce Fundraiser
Wallace Halloween Bash 2014
This traditional October event is the Wallace Chamber’s primary fundraiser of the year, and is vital to keeping the visitors center open and the chamber office staffed. Click on banner to open entire letter-sized poster in separate window.

This year we will have a Halloween Bash on October 18th, complete with live and silent auctions, casino games, entertainment, a great dinner and a costume contest. The party will be held at the Elks Lodge. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Auction items are starting to come in, including a 1997 Buick Le Sabre donated by Dave Smith Motors, a BBQ Grill from Wallace True Value, tickets to local attractions, gift baskets and much more. 1997 Buick Le Sabre to be auctioned at Wallace Halloween Bash 2014 However, more donations are always needed and appreciated to ensure a fun and successful event. The evening begins at 5:30 PM with silent auction bidding and casino games. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM. The live auction will follow. After the auction closes, party goers are invited to dance to the music of local favorites. To add to the festivities, attendees are encouraged to dress in Halloween attire and be eligible for costume contest prizes. A musical comedy by Paul Olson

It’s county fair time in Bunyan Bay, Minnesota, which means one thing: The Miss Walleye Queen Competition. Bernice, the pretty waitress, sees this as her big chance to win Miss Walleye Queen, to be discovered, and more important, to have her face carved in butter at the State Fair. The trouble begins when Gunner’s wife, Clara, decides she also wants to win Miss Walleye Queen, and when Gunner’s estranged twin sister, Trigger shows up to try to win the beauty pageant, things get ugly.

5, 6, 12, 13 Wallace Yuletide Celebration

The Yuletide Festival center of activities will be held at The Historic Wallace Depot again this year. The Depot will be decorated traditionally and the “Pictures with Santa” will be taken there along with a craft fair, book readings, hayrides, and much more.

    The festival offers two weekends of activities that will include:
  • A lighted parade for all, Friday night, December 12
  • A children's “Breakfast with Santa” with lots of crafts, and Santa @ Elks
  • “Little Miss Snowflake and Master Snowflake” competition
  • The community working together to have activities and decorate Wallace
  • Hayrides, Christmas caroling, light sticks, hot chocolate, Popcorn and coffee vendor
  • A Paw Parade for the animals
  • Winter Walk with music and the manger scenes in the churches
  • Stockings for the children
  • Lots of lights, decorations, and excitement.
